Who can apply for the Digital Nomad Visa? 

Freelancers and remote workers who can demonstrate a stable income for companies based outside of Spain are eligible to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa. 

As a minimum requirement, applicants must: 

  • Have a professional or employment relationship with a company outside of Spain 
    • Prove that they have worked or provided services as freelancers for more than 3 months for the same company
    • Prove that the foreign company has been active for more than 1 year
  • Demonstrate that they have suficient income to live in Spain
  • Not be in an irregular situation in Spanish territory 
  • Not be considered inadmissible in the territorial space of countries with which Spain has signed an agreement
  • Have valid health insurance
  • Have no criminal record
  • Not have been a tax resident in Spain in the last 5 years

What documents are needed for the Digital Nomad Visa application? 

Below are the essential documents required to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa: 

  • Valis passport
  • Employment contract older than 3 months
  • Proof of payment for services rendered in the last 3 months
  • Proof that the foreign company has been active for more than 1 year
  • Authorization from the company to work remotely from Spain 
  • Health insurance valid for the entire period of stay, with coverage similar to that offered by the Public Health System
  • Federal criminal record certificate from the countries in which the applicants have resided in the last 5 years before entering Spain
  • Proof that the applicant has the necessary qualifications to perform the work 

What is the application process for the Digital Nomad Visa? 

The steps to successfully apply for the Digital Nomad Visa are: 

  1. Gather the required documents listed above
  2. Submit the application at the Spanish consulate or embassy in your country of residence or in Spain if you are legally in the country 
  3. Wait for approval, which can take up to 20 working days
  4. Once approved, schedule an appointment for fingerprinting at the Spanish police 
  5. 30 days after attending the fingerprinting appointment, collect your Foreigner Identity Card (TIE)
